LEADER of Opposition Hon Matthew Wale has acknowledged the Prime Minister for finally probing the health ministry to look at better ways in addressing procurement of medical drugs in the country.
In a statement today, Hon Wale thanked the Prime Minister for finally taking responsibility and asking questions on this important matter.
“I appreciate him for finally taking responsibility and asking questions on how this issue can be best addressed,” he said.
The Opposition Leader said this is a matter of grave concern and the Prime Minister must make sure he gets to the bottom of it.
Hon Wale has recently made a call to the Prime Minister to intervene and address the drug shortage situation in the country.
The Opposition Leader advised the Prime Minister to summon the responsible officers or better make changes in the key positions to resolve this ongoing situation.
He said the Government cannot continue to treat this as business as usual.
Hon Wale reiterated that what is sad about this continuously deteriorating tragedy is that the Government is neither taking responsibility nor care in providing solutions or alternatives.
“There is negligence in the management of the supply and distribution chain and shortage of drugs in our clinics and hospitals,” he said.
He said this has been a chronic situation that no one seems willing to resolve.
The Opposition Leader said the government’s approach to storage, distribution and management of medical drugs in the country has been business as usual.
“This approach needs to be dealt with as an effective solution to address the procurement, management and distribution of drugs in the country,” he said.
