THE Opposition Group says it plays no part in an alleged plot spearheaded by a disgruntled senior government minister to remove Prime Minister Rick Hou.
The Opposition made the clarification in response to a front-page article in the Island Sun newspaper on Tuesday that reported on the claim.
The report claimed a senior government minister is spearheading moves to topple Prime Minister Hou in relation to his decision against the payment of $50 million.
“On behalf of the Parliamentary Opposition Group, I wish to officially declare that I and the entire Opposition have no part in the move by a disgruntled member of the SIDCCG to remove Prime Minister Hou from office,” Opposition leader Manasseh Maelanga said.
“Any involvement on the part of the Opposition Group will be utterly unwise and damaging to the integrity of the Opposition Group as Prime Minister Hou has only been in office for two months,” he added.
“We are determined to see Prime Minister Hou complete his short term in office and we will support him through the robust discharge of our watchdog role.”
Mr Maelanga said the Opposition is aware that the biggest coalition partner in the SIDCCG never saw eye-to-eye on a lot of issues with its minority partners ever since the change of government late last year.
He said the only way forward in resolving their differences is to put behind their narrow political interests and commit themselves to advancing issues of national interest as they only have limited time to deliver on their priorities.
