Dear Editor – It is indeed a very sad sight to see most of our roads being flooded due to poor drainage system over the past weeks and the latest over the weekend.
After the rain and the flood waters have cleared away, our roads have been left with a messy road and wide pot holes.
Many drivers and vehicle owners are unhappy but could not do much because their vehicles are affected. Many would not want to drive through the roads.
They now have to buy more spare-parts and new tires as a result.
The National Transport Fund (NTF) is doing well to pump in money for the repair works.
However the credibility of the contractors to patch up the pot holes which does not last long is an issue which kept many residents unsatisfied.
We hope the government through its responsible authorities can address this ongoing problem once and for all.
There was assurance by the Minister responsible for Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) in parliament recently that the second phase of the Kukum highway project which is now underway from Central market to Fisheries will run from the Fisheries area all the way to Allegator Creek area, Henderson, East Honiara.
Why note extend this project to a third phase so that road upgrading work can start from the Central Market area all the way down to the White River area in West Honiara.
This is because when the visiting athletes arrive here in 2023, they will also want to visit our beaches in West side so its important for the roads to be fixed and upgraded before this big event.
I hope that government can take note of this.
