The Our Telekom sponsored athletics carnival for secondary schools in Makira has ended successfully last week.
Waimapuru national secondary school deputy principal and chairman of the organising committee Mr. Philip Oto’ohona said he was pleased to see the level of sportsmanship the school children has demonstrated through sport in the three days carnival held at Waimapuru sports ground and acknowledged Our Telekom for the valued sponsorship.
Oto’ohona said the carnival is a memorable one to the fact that school children gained pride and self confidence in themselves.
Waimapuru came overall in medal tally followed by Pawa and Campbel schools. There are four schools that participated in this year’s carnival; they are Waimapuru, Campbell, Pawa and Taripara secondary schools.
Speaking during the official closing of the carnival Hon. Reginald Nunu speaker of Makira Ulawa Province praised the organisers and sponsor of the event for their vision. Nunu said the province will continue to support future carnival.
Our Telekom Public Relations Officer Lawrence Nodua in his closing remarks of the three days event said Our Telekom was happy to support the carnival for taking learning beyond classroom for children and teachers.
Nodua said the carnival has involved schools to engage children in physical and cognitive challenges that are safe, fun and inclusive.
Involving school children in such program will create positive mindset and holistic development within the school children.
The carnival is hosted by Waimapuru school and supported by technical officer of Athletics Solomon’s.
Our Telekom is the official sponsor of this year’s carnival.
