While mud is being thrown at members of the now dissolved Ninth Parliament, their supporters are calling on the police to be aware of bad electioneering.
Former MPs and their supporters spoken to claim intending candidates and their cohorts are using the police in the hunt for faults against them.
“The number of allegations levelled against outgoing MPs and calls for police investigations are increasing.”
Outgoing MPs and supporters alike say while they do not intend to interfere with police carrying out their duties, the law is there to prosecute offenders, be they ex-MPs or intending candidates.
They claim in the electioneering period, intending candidates and their supporters are also using the media and other anti-corruption organisations in their efforts to paint mud on the former Parliamentarians.
They accuse the print media of orchestrating anti-feelings towards former MPs, adding they are out there to get at “us”.
