AN application to withdraw the election petition filed against Member of Parliament (MP) for South Guadalcanal Rollen Seleso will be made in court on October 7.
Gabriel Suri of Suri’s Law Practice, who represents the petitioner – former MP for South Guadalcanal David Day Pacha – informed the court on Thursday of the petitioner’s intention.
Judge Howard Lawry then set down October 7 for Mr Suri to make the application to withdraw the petition on behalf it his client.
The reason for the withdrawal is due to the high cost associated with the continuation of the case.
On the next date, the court will also hear if any other candidate wishes to replace Mr Pacha as petitioner.
Mr Suri had already sent a notice of the withdrawal to the Island Sun newspaper on Thursday.
Mr Pacha filed the petition after he lost the National General Election.
He initially alleged about 5 counts of offences but after assessing the allegations, Mr Suri dropped all the counts, except for one on Undue Influence.
Mr Seleso is engaging Rano & Company law firm.
