THE Paeloge community successfully hosted a Gospel Music Competition last month to mark the new year celebration at Paeloge village in West Gizo, Western Province.
The event was hosted by Moonlight Band from Valapata village on Vella la Vella Island as part of their outreach programme to empower rural youths.
A total of 16 groups participated in the live performance music competition at Paeloge village on Thursday 9 December 2024.
At the end of the activity, the judges decided to give equal tokens of appreciation to all participating groups simply because it was a first of its kind. The judges anticipate that the next event will be more competitive with the participation of more groups.
The Master of Ceremony Panda Ta’ake acknowledged the participating communities for their enthusiastic participation and unwavering support during the Christmas and New Year programme.
“The energy, joy and commitment made these celebrations truly memorable and successful, marked by vibrant festivities and shared unity,” he said.
The event committee thanked Henry Kaniki and wife Clera for their generosity and sponsorship of the prizes for Gospel Music Contest.
“The support not only elevated the spirit of the celebrations, but also inspired and encouraged the incredible talents in our community,” Pastor Jack Harry said.
Moonlight Band Coordinator Jonahtan Bukiri acknowledged the community of Paeloge for their hospitality and welcoming the band to facilitate the Gospel Music Contest.
Mr Bukiri also shared his experience as a young musician who found it very educational to take part in this historical event and expressed anticipation to participate in more of such event in the future.
One of the judges, Iota Aram highlighted the significance of young musical talents that were showcased during the event, saying this is something needs naturing to bring about positive changes in the lives of youths and the community at large.
A mother Rose Derick highlighted the opportunity that this event provided to youths and women with interest in music.
She said she used to be afraid of holding a mic and speaking in front of a crowd, but this activity built her confidence in public speaking.
Mrs Derick also recommended that such event be held annually to help bring about positive change in the community.
