THE staging of Miss Solomon pageant can bring tourists to our shores if it is an annual event in the Solomon Islands.
This was highlighted by Glyn Joshua, the Director Commercial and Cruise department of Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA).
He uttered the words in a press meeting with members of the local media during the launching of the Miss Solomon Islands pageant 2015 on Sunday.
“If all goes well and if this can be an event that is held annually it will bring tourists to our shores.
“Because this is the type of event that, if we host it and it stays in our calendar people will look forward to it,” Mr Joshua said.
Given the incompetency of hosting the event, Mr Joshua said that there is a need to host the event annually.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solomon Host, Joyce Konofilia also confirmed that no one is really running the event here in the country.
It is understood that the pageant show is usually an annual event in most of the Pacific Islands countries.
Meanwhile, SIPA donated SBD$150, 000 in cash to Solomon Host towards organizing and hosting this year’s Miss Solomon Islands pageant.
