The two day Miss Solomon Islands Pageant (MSIP) queen show commences today in Honiara.
According to the program will begin today with a speech competition for the contestants at the Auditorium at 10am to 11am.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Advancing Women in Leadership.’
The contestants’ speech will be based on the selected topics based on the pageant theme.
A total of six contestants will be contesting this year’s pageant show and they are in the age range of 18 to 25 years.
This year’s six contestants are; Miss Western Province Mynisha Boso from Western province, Miss Top Timber Melissa Takanaia from Malaita/Western provinces, Miss Coral Sea & Casino Gladys Habu from Isabel province, Miss Supper Star Tiare Haro from Malaita/Western provinces, Miss JQY Bridgette Igilave of Solomon/PNG origin and Miss Honiara City Council Freda Maui from Renbel province.
According to the organisers a float procession will also commence today SICUL grounds at Town Ground from 3pm all the way up to the SINU Kukum campus and will end at the National Art Gallery later in the afternoon.
The crowning night will be staged tomorrow Saturday 2nd November at the Coral Sea Casino and there will be four categories to compete in.
They are sarong, talent, traditional contemporary wear and on-stage interview.
All points from four categories will be added up with the speech overall mark to determine the overall winner.
A separate award will be awarded for the best float and best speech.
Each event will have a set of judges appointed by the MSIP committee with specific judging criterias.
Prior to the event the contestants have visited churches, schools and hospital and advocate on the issues which motivates them to join the show.
The public is invited to attend the speech competition today and listen to the contestants speeches today.
