FORMER Guadalcanal premier Stephen Panga is calling on employers to consider increasing their workers’ salary in light of the increasing cost of living in Honiara.
Mr Panga said the kind of salaries some employers are paying their workers could not last them for even a week.
“The prices of goods at shops and even at the market are soaring, whilst budget for a family that depends on the working father or mother remained the same,” Mr Panga said.
“This is a growing concern for families and the government needs to seriously look into this.”
Mr Panga said most employees put much effort to their work only to earn little that cannot sustain their families for even a week.
“It is only human to consider such situation and I called on the responsible authority to seriously look into the issue.”
He added as election is near, it’s also vital that those contesting political parties consider the welfare of ordinary citizens.
