A PEOPLE’S Alliance Party led Government will review the country’s Investment Act so national entrepreneurs can be protected from unfair competition posed by rich investors.
The decision to review the Investment Act was agreed on at the party’s recent executive meeting in Honiara.
PAP Media Officer, George Atkin reports the meeting heard how the Investment Division in the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Immigration and Labour has been unable to stop better off business houses operating in areas that are reserved for local entrepreneurs under the current Investment Act.
The party executive meeting was told the Investment Act must be reviewed with the view to give more power and staff to the Investment Division so it can become effective and efficient in carrying out its responsibilities.
A People’s Alliance Party Government will want only indigenous Solomon Islanders to be allowed to operate taxis and buses.
The party is saddened to note non indigenous Solomon Islanders have been engaging in operating taxi and bus services in Honiara.
