A PEOPLE’S Alliance Party Government will abolish the Ministry of Rural Development because it has been duplicating the duties of the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening.
PAP Media Officer, George Atkin reports the decision was reached at the party’s recent national executive meeting in Honiara.
PAP National President, Sir Nathaniel Waena said the Ministry of Rural Development has been responsible for rural development, which under the National Constitution, is the main task of the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening.
A PAP government will move the Ministry of Rural Development to be part of the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening.
The PAP meeting also agreed an Alliance Government will move the Aid Coordination Department from the Ministry of National Planning to become a department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
Meanwhile, a PAP government will also create the post of a Secretary of State who will be based in the Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet.
The Secretary of State will coordinate all Permanent Secretaries on behalf of the Prime Minister and his Government to ensure government policies are implemented.
