THE People’s Alliance Party is worried about government plans to dismantle the Government Communications Unit (GCU) in the Prime Minister’s Office.
The party’s president, former Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena, described as wrong the government’s plans to dismantle the unit, which is the government’s mouthpiece.
He said it is through the Government Communications Unit that Solomon Islanders and the wider-world are better informed about government activities, its achievements, failures and public policies.
Well placed sources in the Prime Minister’s Office said all the information officers in the unit will be made redundant this year and next year.
The Ministry of Public Service remains tightlipped about the planned redundancies of the unit’s information officers.
