PARENTS of students at Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School (PSS) in Auki, Malaita have raised concerns over a serious internal school issue that led to the cutting of a cow’s leg last week.
Reports indicated that the incident occurred due to an ongoing dispute over the appointment of a new principal for the school. The school community was left in the dark as to who will take on the role.
The limbo raised concerns amongst some parents and guardians of the school.
One concerned parent Danny Belo expressed his worries on social media following an attack on a school cow.
“The Aligegeo School cow was cut by the leg, an incident related to the unresolved issue of the appointment of a new principal.
“The school community still doesn’t know who the new principal will be. The fear now is that such incident could happen again to school properties or assets.
“We urge those responsible to swiftly ensure a resolution on the appointment of a new principal for the good of the school and the education of our children.
“As parents and guardians, we are deeply concerned about the well-being and education of our children who should be in class right now. Let’s address this issue in a culturally appropriate way and find the best solution for everyone,” Mr Belo said.
In response to Mr Belo’s post, several parents have called for a police investigation and urged authorities to arrest those responsible for the crime.
Despite the unrest, classes resumed as scheduled on Monday this week.
