PARENTS and students described the way the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MERD) handled the school result this year as pathetic.
Parents, guardians and students lined up very early in the morning hoping to get themselves copies of the papers to see the results.
A parent questioned the decision not to publish the results in the papers.
The Solomon Star published a front page article of the results being signed off and released.
When parents and guardians did not find the results in the paper, they start accusing the paper of “lying”.
However, it was explained to them that the MEHRD has decided not to use the newspapers this year to publish the results.
According to the Director of Teaching, Linda Wate the 2019 secondary school forms 3 and 5 results have been released and can be accessed on the ministry’s website.
But the parents argued they cannot access the website because they are internet illiterate.
“Do you think and expect a parent coming all the way from a village know how to go about accessing this important information from internet?” one parent questioned.
A form 5 student who traveled all the way from Tikopia also told this paper that he expected to get more than 20 copies to be sent back to his families and class mates in Lata.
But his expectation was not met on Wednesday morning.
When asked what he will do, the young lad said he will find his wantoks that have access to the internet.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Dr Franco Rodie has told the Solomon Star his ministry has decided not to use the papers as of this year to publish the results.
