Parents are told to keep an eye on their children as mass exposure to new technologies such as mobile phones, internet and movies contributes to ill-behaviour and lack of moral attitudes among children.
This was raised by a concerned citizen when visiting the media last week.
John Toki from West Guadalcanal stated in his report that almost every children today have access to mobile phones with internet connections.
He said, this is not safe for children in a sense that mobile phones can be used to access videos, photos and conversations that restricted only for adults.
“Mobile phones could be used to circulate movies, pictures or audios that deemed dangerous for children of primary school and junior secondary category, thus it can cost them their future, since these exposure to mass media can distract kids from learning in school and at home.”
He also appeals for the parents to control their children’s access to mobile phones, because failure to do so will certainly have negative effects on their physical and mental health as they grow up.
“I humbly call on our good parents and the communities we live to have some control measures for our children accessing mobile phones and internet, because their exposure to bad influences in the mass media is a form of abuse that can ruin our future, seeing that children are the leaders for tomorrow,” he concluded.
