THE general secretary of People’s Congress Party Charles Ashley says the in-coming government must push for decentralization in order to develop the provinces.
He was speaking with the Solomon Star on Friday.
“If in the event People Congress Party members merge with other parties to form a new government, we would be pushing for decentralisation as a priority in the first 100 days,” Mr Ashley said.
“Decentralisation is the way forward for this nation if we want to move forward,” he added.
“PAP is ambitious to be part of a new government if we have our members join the government to execute the decentralisation approach.”
He added decentralisation will reduce internal migration to urban centers especially to Honiara and other centers.
“People always come to Honiara looking for jobs because there are no jobs in the provinces.”
He said that’s the problem when everything is centred in Honiara.
“Our slogan ‘stop the riots’ simply means if decentralisation come to pass it will slow down rate of criminal activities in Honiara and people will start going back to their provincial centers because developments are happening there.”
