A GIZO resident has urged passengers arriving onboard vessels from Honiara to dispose of their trash in the right place.
Mary Harley Reggie, a betel nut vendor said a lot of passengers arriving at the wharf have displayed a careless attitude when it comes to disposing of their trash.
“They just dump their trash into the sea or on the wharf,” Reggie told the Solomon Star.
“I wish to urge passengers arriving from Honiara to respect Gizo town by disposing of their rubbish at the right place,” she added.
“Gizo has already adapted a no single-use plastic policy.
“So it’s provocative when you see people dump their plastic trash into the sea or on the wharf.”
She said this attitude goes against the policy that the Western Provincial Government had put in place against single-use plastics.
Reggie also urges the Gizo Town Council to regularly inform the township’s residents about its clean-up program.
