THE Guadalcanal Provincial Government is urging its people to avoid posting sensitive comments on social media regarding the current situation in Honiara.
In a statement on Sunday 28th November, the Executive of the Provincial Government said posting sensitive issues regarding the ongoing situation in Honiara are unhelpful when leaders are finding amicable and peaceful solutions to the current issues in Honiara.
“While the Executive Government respects our democratic rights in terms of freedom of speech and expression, it also strongly appeals to the posters and moderators to be responsible in terms of the tones and natures of the posts.
“Freedom of speech and expression comes with great responsibility, especially in our cultural context.
“Therefore, the Executive Government, kindly appeals to all moderators and posters from these pages to refrain from posting any statements that might be deemed otherwise as abusive, racist, provocative, and inciting, to our fellow good law abiding citizens,” the statement said.
The provincial executive also clarified that statement from these pages that claimed to represent the views of Guadalcanal Provincial Government is simply untrue.
It said the province’s only legitimate social media page is the Guadalcanal Provincial Government Facebook page.
