AN APPLICATION to strikeout the petition case lodged against Member of Parliament (MP) for Temotu Pele, James Bonunga will be heard in the High Court on August 27.
Former MP for Temotu Pele Dudley Kopu filed a petition against MP Bonunga after he failed to retain the Temotu Pele Constituency Seat in the April 17 National General Election.
This petition case went before Judge Maelyn Bird on Monday where she made some orders.
She refused giving additional time for the petitioner to file a sworn statement and for the second respondent (Attorney General) to file and serve their final sworn statement by August 19.
Judge Bird said, the application to strikeout the petition will be heard on August 27 at 2pm.
Kopu filed the petition against Bonunga on grounds of Corrupt and Illegal Practices, which also includes Bribery and Breach of the Electoral Act.
Bonunga, in return through his lawyer, applied to strikeout the petition on grounds of insufficient evidence to support the petition and frivolous and vexatious pleadings.
Schottler Kwaiga of L & L lawyers appeared in court, Monday, for the petitioner, while Bonunga engages private lawyer Francis Waleanisia.
