IF all goes to plan, Government through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services will this week officially launch the vaccination rollout for the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday.
This was revealed by the National Health Emergency Operation Centre (NHEOC) Incident Controller Dr Nemia Bainivalu.
He was speaking yesterday during the COVID-19 talk-back show over the national broadcaster.
He said the Pfizer doses were supposed to be on the roll-out late last month.
However, due to unfortunate protest, rioting, looting and burning of parts of the Honiara, the planned launched was abandoned.
He said, work is now underway to ensure the launch happens this week.
But it depends on the preparation work this week, he added.
Vaccination rollout for Pfizer will be administered at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for pregnant mothers.
For schools, the plan is to start the rollout at schools once most of the schools commence the 2022 academic year.
Students and teenagers aged between 12-18 are eligible for Pfizer.
However, they can only get their jab based on their parents’ consent.
Ministry of Health said its important for the eligible population to get the Pfizer jab before it expires.
This is because once the doses are removed from the cold storage facility at Ranadi Medical Store in Honiara, they need to be used up within 30 days.
