SIFF to host fundraiser to assist Football athletes
THE Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) will organize a fundraising event at the Garden Bar & Restaurant Pacific Casino at 7pm tonight.
The fundraising will go towards supporting the PG2023 Legacy Scholarships.
The PG2023 Legacy Scholarships is an initiative by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) to create a positive legacy with football athletes that will contribute to their ability to be productive citizens of Solomon Islands.
This is based on a desire for football to impact up positively on lives of athletes empowering them not only in sports but in fields of work that will lead them broader roles for nation building in Solomon Islands.
The objective of the PG2023 Legacy Awards is to offer football athletes with opportunities for formal training while they are engaged in national teams.
The aims are as follows:
• Train football athletes in disciplines of choice
• Create a positive mindset for football athletes for expanding their roles in our communities
• Set a basis for similar future programmes to encourage football athletes to continue their engagement in the sport
The PG2023 Legacy Scholarships shall be a special fund set up for the purpose of providing academic and other training for football athletes.
This includes education programmes with local institutions in the areas of computing, carpentry, auto-mechanics, nursing, administration etc. ranging from certificate courses to degree level qualification.
With a key focus on sports, the PG2023 scholarships is also to offer opportunities for football athletes to access special training with overseas football institutions that will serve to extend their careers.
This will bring a net benefit back to our performance in the 2023 Pacific Games.
The scholarships shall be presented to twenty football athletes equally shared between males and females. A stringent selection process shall be established with a body to consider applications for suitable candidates who are key players in national teams but with a potential to benefit from academic training.
This initiative, the Football Gala Dinner, is part of the effort to engage the community towards establishing the scholarship scheme. We feel that our joint effort is required to share in the development of our young football athletes and supporting their futures as well as the future of Solomon Islands.
Hence, your positive reception of this concept is kindly asked because it is an investment that directly impacts our young people in shaping them to be productive members of society beyond sports. This, we believe, is the future of football – developing players and molding productive citizens.
