REGULAR physical exercise has been recommended as the best medicine for a healthy body.
A senior officer from the None Communicable Diseases (NCD) department of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services said regular exercise such as walking and household chores that released fats from the body through sweats is the best cure for physical health.
She relayed this to the Solomon Star in an interview following reports that Non Communicable Disease (NCD) in the Pacific are linked to food and lack of exercise.
She said most sick people admitted at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara were diagnosed with sickness related to the way they live.
She said while little attention is taken on what we consume, people must now control their salt intake and fatty food.
“If we can control our diet and drink more fresh water and have time out participating in leisure activities regularly to reduce fats in our body we would not experience NCD problems,” she uttered.
The health officer reiterated that consuming fatty food will not be a problem if we do a lot of exercise to keep the body system flowing, but she warned that doing little to keep our body sweat at least once in a day invites problem such as obesity and overweight.
She added when people have obesity they become overweight, hence they are more vulnerable to be attacked by NCDs.
She said the worse state of diabetes shows people have their arm or foot amputated and experiencing cardiovascular disease, stroke and high blood pressure are all associated with our luxurious lifestyle, since we continue to take little attention on doing light exercises.
She concluded that people today are more concerned about inspecting their vehicle’s oil, fuel and engine than their physical health.
