Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) has raised concerned over a lawsuit threat against the Island Times Newspaper of Palau.
In a statement issued today, PINA said, it expressed concerns over the intimidation and threats of lawsuit against its Vice President, Ms Leilani Reklai, Publisher of Island Times newspaper.
“PINA stands in solidarity with the statements issued by the Palau Media Council and the Pacific Freedom Forum, which call on the government and business community in Palau to recognise and respect the media’s critical role as defenders of democracy.
“We urge all parties to uphold a free and fair media environment, where journalists can carry out their duties without fear of suppression or intimidation,” the statement said.
