THE National Government through the Ministry of Mines and Energy will ensure Honiara City streets light up before the 2023 Pacific Games.
Minister of Mines and Energy Bradley Tovosia revealed this in Parliament on Friday in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for Small Malaita Rick Hou.
Mr Hou said currently some streetlights in the city are not working and there are still streets in the city that are without lights.
He then asked “who is responsible for installation and upgrading of all streetlights in the city?”
In response, Mr Tovosia acknowledged that Honiara City streets need streetlights and his ministry is committed to fulfilling that obligation.
He added that his ministry is also considering asking the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) and Honiara City Council (HCC) to do it.
He said he will also seek the assistance of Solomon Ports and Solomon Power to support this initiative.
“Our roads need street lights before the games and my ministry will ensure this happens,” he said.
MP Hou reinterred that the minister must address this situation to prepare the city for the games.
He added whether it’s Solomon Power or Solomon Ports stepping into assist, everyone must work together to support the initiative.
The 2023 Pacific Games is happening during the second week of November.
