As the country prepares to celebrate this year’s 38th Anniversary of Independence, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has chosen the theme for this year’s celebration which all citizens’ should reflect upon to move the country forward.
The theme for this year is “Embracing Peace For Nation Building”.
The National Independence Organising Committee with support from the Senior Management Team at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has given the Prime Minister the opportunity to choose the theme from a number of suggestions during this week.
“The theme is an important reminder for all Solomon Islanders that peaceful co-existence in a culturally diverse nation like ours is important as we all strive to build our nation into a better place for everyone to live and enjoy,” a statement from the OPMC said.
Every year on July 7 is the country’s Independence Day Anniversary. This year is the country’s 38th Independence Anniversary after gaining political independence from Great Britain on July 7th 1978.
In Honiara, the Public is encouraged to attend the formal celebration at Lawson Tama Stadium on Thursday 7 July from 7am -11am which will include the police parade, the Prime Minister’s national speech, presentation of honors and awards and entertainment by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Band.
A live-string band programme will also be featured on the National Radio, SIBC to be aired during the day.
