PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has congratulated the Guadalcanal Provincial Government on the launch of their COVID-19 vaccination rollout program Friday last week.
The Prime Minister commended the Guadalcanal Premier Francis Sade and his deputy, Lazarus Rima for taking the lead to be the first two to be vaccinated.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the actions taken reflected those taken earlier by the Premiers of Western Province and Choiseul Province and are exemplary of the leadership needed to encourage our people to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
He said Guadalcanal province had been allocated an initial 15,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
“I am informed that the plan is to vaccinate all eligible adults living in the areas up to Lambi in the west, and up to Aola in the east before moving to the Weather coast and inland areas as more vaccines arrive,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Sogavare also thanked the management and staff of GPPOL, Tina Hydro and Gold Ridge mining companies for their assurance to support the roll out program.
“My government greatly appreciates your assurances. We look forward to working with you to ensure our workers and people in Guadalcanal receive their COVID-19 vaccines,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sogavare said the COVID-19 rollout in Guadalcanal province has commenced the process to ultimately vaccinate the total eligible population in our country.
“We have now commenced the vaccination program in the most at-risk municipality and provinces – Honiara, Western Province, Choiseul Province, Malaita Outer Islands and Guadalcanal Province,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the health team will outline the outreach vaccination program for the other provinces next week.
He said all provinces will be informed about the vaccination rollout programs in their respective provinces.
