PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has congratulated his new Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull on his successful election into office.
In a congratulatory message to the Australian Prime Minister on Thursday, Mr Sogavare said:
“On behalf of my government and the people of Solomon Islands, I wish to congratulate you on your successful election to become the 29th Prime Minister of Australia.
“Solomon Islands and Australia enjoy strong bilateral relations and continue to invest in strengthening this relationship.
“The cooperation we maintain with Australia through its bilateral aid programme and the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) has been enormous and one that we greatly value.
“It is my sincere hope that with your new leadership, the current bilateral aid programme and the ongoing drawdown of RAMSI will remain the same for the benefit of our two countries and for the peace and security of the Pacific region.
“I look forward to work with you and your new government to further deepen our bilateral relations and also advancing our common interest at the regional and international levels.”
