PRIME Minister (PM) Manasseh Sogavare has congratulated the youngest Member of Parliament (MP) for South Choiseul Sammy Qalo.
Qalo won the South Choiseul by-election recently in Choiseul Province. He is the son of the former MP Robertson Qalo.
Mr. Sogavare congratulates Qalo when he addresses the nation on Covid-19 update speech over the national broadcaster, Monday.
“Let me join the many thousands of people in the country on behalf of my government to congratulate the newest Member of Parliament for South Choiseul Constituency Hon Sammy Qalo.
“Hon Qalo let me welcome you to the select group of Solomon Islanders we have the honour and privileged to be elected to the national parliament, the good people from South Choiseul Constituency have spoken.
“And I applaud all the voters and supporters of all the candidates for upholding law and order for ensuring the election were done peacefully, freely and fairly,” he said.
He also conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission, the electoral commissioner, staff and everyone who made the by-election successful.
“You have done an outstanding job, thank you,” he said.
Mr. Sogavare sincerely acknowledges with appreciation the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in ensuring security for the by-election process in South Choiseul Constituency was peaceful.
The RSIPF support the work of electoral commission during the election.
The RSIPF provide security presence and escorting of the ballot boxes to the Choiseul provincial capital Taro and further providing security during the counting process.
