SOLOMON Islands will know its Prime Minister on Thursday this week when the newly elected Members of Parliament convene at the National Parliament for the Election of the country’s Prime Minister.
Governor General Sir David Vunagi today officially issued the notice for the convening of the National Parliament at 9.30am, Thursday 2nd May 2024.
In the statement Sir David said nomination papers are to be delivered to the Governor General at the Government House starting from 10am today (Monday 29th April, 2024) until the close of nomination at 4pm Tuesday 30th April 2024.
He said a list specifying all candidates nominated and their respective nominators shall be submitted by the Governor General to each member at the close of nominations.
“All members are eligible for candidature; no member shall be a candidate unless he or she is nominated by four other members and no member may nominate more than one candidate.
“Any candidate may withdraw his or her candidature at any time before the conclusion of the election,” the notice issued by the Governor General concluded.
