Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, was accorded a guard of honour on his arrival on Thursday night at the Nadi International airport.
Prime Minister Sogavare is in Fiji for the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Retreat which started yesterday.
He was given an official briefing immediately after his arrival.
Yesterday the leaders commenced the Special Leaders’ Retreat with a Prayer breakfast.
The retreat will discuss the operationalising the Suva Agreement, status of Japan-ALPS discharge and steps going forward and PIF Support for Solomon Islands LDC Graduation.
Prime Minister Sogavare also had a number of bilateral engagements lined up yesterday.
His first bilateral meeting was with his Fiji counterpart, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during which the two leaders discussed the Fiji-Solomon Islands Air Services Agreement (ASA) and matters relating to the planned Solomon Islands Chancery in Suva.
Maritime boundary is also an issue of strategic interest to both nations.
Vanuatu and Saudi Arabia also sought to dialogue with Solomon Islands yesterday.
The Forum’s Pacific Vision has been consistent and that is “for a region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity, so that all Pacific people can lead free, healthy, and productive lives.”
Solomon Islands joined membership of the forum upon gaining its independence in 1978.
