Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo last Friday welcomed the crew of HMAS Parramatta last Friday when the long-range frigate vessel docked at Point Cruz.
In a brief speech PM Lilo welcomed the crew members onboard the boat, and thanked them for their goodwill visit.
“This kind of engagement is good for our community, and I’d like to thank the commanding officer for choosing to visit us, welcome to Solomon Islands and I do hope you have a good engagement with our local community”, the PM said in his speech.
HMAS Parramatta’s visit is part of Operation SOLANIA, which assists Pacific island states to protect their fisheries and natural resources through detecting and deterring illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing activity.
During their stopover in Honiara, the crew members carried out refurbishment activities at the Tuvaruhu school and ended their stay with a friendly game of football against the Titans at Lawson Tama stadium.
The HMAS Parramatta left Honiara yesterday.
