PRIME Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has welcomed the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) training squadron who were in Honiara on Friday on a day visit.
Mr Lilo welcomed the squadron through their Rear Admiral Hidek Yuasa when they met at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
He said the JMSDF presence in the country meant a lot to the people and their presence itself would further strengthened relationship between Japan and Solomon Islands.
The Prime Minister also informed Mr Yuasa of the Government’s support to Japan’s effort in their campaign to stabilising security and global peace in the region.
“Solomon Islands support Japan’s security strategy for global peace and security and I believe cooperation amongst all countries concerned is important towards achieving that,” he said.
In response, Mr Yuasa said he was happy to be here.
“I have advised members of the visiting squadron to take time out to visit parts of Honiara and meet the friendly people here,” the Rear Admiral said.
Mr Yuasa also briefly informed the Prime Minister on the purpose of their visit and the capacity of their personnel’s who are currently here in Honiara.
“We are happy to visit your beautiful country and we thank you for welcoming us here,” he said.
