Solomon Islands and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas as both countries as Solomon Islands opens its new embassy in Jakarta, Tuesday.
The commitment was made on Tuesday when Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
During the brief encounter both leaders agreed to deepen the cooperation between the two countries.
The Indonesian leader also took the opportunity to congratulate Prime Minister Lilo and his Government on the opening of the country’s newest mission in Jakarta.
It has also been confirmed to Prime Minister Lilo inJakartathat ten Solomon Islanders have been awarded scholarships to study in various universities across Indonesia.
Mr. Lilo said he was very pleased with Indonesia’s support and he hoped that both countries would further deepen their engagements in other areas in addition to education.
At the meeting, Mr. Lilo also thanked President Yudhoyono for his interest in pushing the Pacific Islands interests to accessing the Asian market and other opportunities in the ASEANregion.
