The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare has told the 20 victorious Under-12 and Under-14 Futsal players the Government will pay each of them $1,500.00 for their outstanding performances during the National Futsal Championships in Australia.
The Under-12 and Under-14 Futsal teams came first and third respectively during their competition in Australia.
The Prime Minister announced the government’s decision to reward the young players when he welcomed them in the Cabinet Chambers in the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, soon after arriving back in Honiara from the Australian National Futsal Championships.
He told the young champions that, “The money will be paid at no better time than now when you will need to buy your new school uniforms and your other needs to return to your respective schools this year”.
“You have made your government, parents, friends and the country as a whole, very proud with your outstanding results. You have shown our friends in Australia that you too can do it.
“Your winning the games has once again put Solomon Islands in the Futsal World.”
Meanwhile, President of the Solomon Islands Sports Coalition Nacanieli Seru told the Prime Minister that his futsal organisation and the futsal players are very thankful to the Democratic Coalition for Change Government for enabling the teams to take part in the games in Australia.
He said the government’s $80,000.00 intervention of assistance has resulted in the “sweet victories”.
“Thank you Prime Minister for getting your Ministers to understand our needs and your support for Futsal. Your financial intervention has enabled the young players to participate in the games and they have done the country.”
The players and supporters then applauded with big “THANK YOU PRIME MINISTER”.
