PRIME Minister Jeremiah Manele will move a motion to set the date for the election of the Governor General when Parliament resumes on Monday 10 June.
PM Manele confirmed this to media during the first ‘Meet the Press’ in Cabinet on Monday.
He said such motion is provided for under Standing Order 16.
Apart from that, PM Manele said every bill that was not deliberated and passed by the 11th Parliament at the time of its dissolution needs to go back to Cabinet for new approval before they are re-submitted to the Parliament.
“I have instructed the Secretary to Cabinet who has in turn instructed all Permanent Secretaries to ensure the bills under their ministries that need to be resubmitted to Cabinet for consideration are prepared to ensure they are resubmitted to Parliament as soon as possible to go through the Parliamentary process,” he said.
Meanwhile, PM Manele said following his election as Prime Minister, he received congratulatory messages received from the country’s development partners and also received overseas dignitaries who flew into the country to pay him courtesy visits such as:
- The Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG), John Rosso who paid a courtesy call on Friday 3 May, only a day after his election as Prime Minister;
- PNG’s Minister for Police, Peter Tsiamilili and Police Commissioner David Manning who paid
their courtesy call on Saturday 11 May;
