PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare will officially open the new Pacific Games 2023 Office in Honiara tomorrow.
The Prime Minister said all the key partners for the 2023 Pacific Games will be housed under the office including; the National Hosting Authority, the Games Organising Committee, and the Facilities Committee, a statement from Prime Minister Press Secretariat said.
He said the office will also host the National Sports Council.
Prime Minister Sogavare said on Friday 17th July, 3 years from the PG2023 Games, he also approved the establishment of the PG2023 Facilities Committee to oversee the construction of the PG2023 facilities.
The Games Organising Committee [GOC] will also be established within the next month.
These two committees established by the Pacific Games Act 2023 are essential for the successful delivery of the 2023 Pacific Games.
In addition, the Prime Minister said the NHA will also be establishing a Sports Development Committee to oversee the sports development program for our athletes, as we aspire to have our best performance ever during the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The Pacific Games Act 2023 has also been reviewed and I shall table the Pacific Games 2023 Amendment Bill (2020) at the next meeting of Parliament,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the 2023 Pacific Games is more than just a Game.
He said it is the single largest human development project for the country that will build our sportspeople, our youths, and unify our people and our country.
“It will showcase to the rest of the Pacific the depth of talent we have in our country and what the Solomon Islands is capable of,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the 2023 Pacific Games is a catalyst for youth empowerment.
He said it will also drive initiatives to clean up our capital city so that we can show-case our city and be proud of it.
“It will expand sports development to all provinces and all our schools throughout the country. It will help us to halt and reverse the current NCD epidemic that is killing our people and is responsible for 8 deaths out of every 10 deaths at our hospitals,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the investment in the 2023 pacific games is an investment in our people’s future.
