PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare is renewing his call for all adults in Honiara and all children to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Mr Sogavare made the call yesterday (19th January 2021) when announcing the community transmission of COVID-19 in Honiara after a person travelling from Ontong Java onboard MV Akwa to Honiara on 10th January 2022 tested positive to COVID-19.
He said currently only 20 per cent of our population is fully vaccinated.
“I renew my call for all adults in Honiara and all children between 12 years and 18 years old to now get vaccinated as soon as possible.
“You cannot continue to delay. The Ministry of Health will advise you on the locations for vaccination in addition to the Solomon Islands Ports Authority location so that many of you can get vaccinated,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also urged those who have not been vaccinated to be very careful and observe COVID-19 safe practices.
“All of you that have not been vaccinated are now the most vulnerable to contract COVID-19. Please be very careful and observe COVID-19 safe practices.
Some of the COVID-19 safe practices the government wanted all members of the public to adhere to are;
- Wear face masks when you leave home.
- Practise social distancing of at least 2 metres from the next person
- Use hand sanitisers or wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Do not congregate in large groups
