Newly appointed High Commissioner of New Zealand (NZ) to Solomon Islands Mr. Jonathan Andrew Curr has been welcomed by Jeremiah Manele this week.
His Excellency Curr presented his Letter of Introduction to Prime Minister Manele, marking the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the country.
The ceremony was marked by a cordial exchange of gifts, symbolizing the strong and friendly ties between Solomon Islands and New Zealand.
Prime Minister Manele expressed confidence that with Mr. Curr’s extensive experience and strong personal qualities, he will further strengthen the already close relationship between the two nations.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged New Zealand’s long-standing partnership with Solomon Islands across a number of sectors, including National Security, Education, Fisheries, Health, Tourism, Trade and Investment, the Bina Harbour Project, Inland Revenue and Customs, and the Forum Fisheries Agency, particularly in the area of surveillance.
In response, His Excellency Curr expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome received and echoed the sentiment that New Zealand’s relationship with Solomon Islands has been long-standing and enduring.
He emphasized that his mission is clear – to enhance and strengthen the bonds between the Solomon Islands and New Zealand and the region.
H.E. Curr assured the Prime Minister that, as with other international partners, New Zealand is committed to collaborating on several significant projects that will benefit the people of Solomon Islands.
He reaffirmed that New Zealand’s long-term goal is to support the country deliver essential services to its citizens, while fostering constructive engagement and providing alternative revenue sources.
