The 2015 Pacific Games mascot, “ Tura the Kokomo” last week visited the children at the Ela Murray International School kindergarten.
The students were delighted to have Tura visit their school and prepared the school with paintings and drawings and even made a nest for Tura.
The school visit was part the organisers’ strategy to promote the event at schools and with the young through the mascot.
Teacher Eunice Malo said they were grateful that the organising committee gave them the opportunity to host the mascot.
Malo said the students’ interest had piqued after seeing pictures of Tura in the media and on the internet after the mascot was launched earlier this year.
The visit provided the students with the chance to meet Tura and take photographs as well as having some basic facts about the games relayed to them by the organisers.
Malo said the billboards of Tura around Port Moresby had been a source of interest for her pupils and the visit was informative and exciting for them.
Games organising committee executive manager Ken Siminji commended Ela Murray for being the first school on Tura’s tour.
The mascot will visit more schools as well as hospitals and communities throughout the country this year as the build up to 2015 continues.
