POLICE Commissioner, Frank Prendergast has again reiterated that Police are expecting a peaceful National General Election when the country goes to the poll on November, 19.
Mr Prendergast reiterated the call which has already been made by several other senior Police Officers over the past month of Police not anticipating any major hiccups as the nation leads up to election day.
“So far we have not recieved any major threat assessments except for a few rumours which Police is working toward controlling.
“Apart from that we do not expect any major situations that would disrupt next month’s election,” he said.
Mr Prendergast said that currently Police is working closely with the intending candidates and making them aware of expectations and the need to have peaceful elections.
“We are committed to working closely with candidates and also the people to ensure that the election process goes smoothly and peacefully and also the formation of the next government goes well without any disruptions,” Mr Prendergast said.
Mr Prendergast also revealed that Police will launch its full scale operation a week prior to Election Day, which will run all throughout the election period until the formation of the new government.
