A 30-year-old male suspect was arrested at Busuóne Village, Malaita Province this week for the alleged murder of a 26-year-old male.
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Atori Police Station made the arrest yesterday (Thursday 20th January).
Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Inspector Charles Edward Koto said the suspect walked into a kitchen where the deceased was sitting down and cut the deceased’s neck and right hand with a bush knife.
Mr Koto said the deceased died instantly after the attack.
Both the deceased and the suspect lived in the same village.
Mr Koto said the suspect is now in police custody as investigation into the incident continues.
He expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased for the loss of one of their family members.
“Police appeal to those who (are) present during the incident to assist with information.
“This will help investigators bring whoever is responsible to face justice,” Mr Koto said in a statement today (Friday 21st January 2021).
