POLICE on Wednesday arrested the alleged owner of the firearm that was located in a vehicle early this month in Honiara.
Police Commissioner Matthew Varley in his weekly conference yesterday said they made the third arrest from follow up and inquiries from the two men who were initially arrested.
The two men have been arrested after police located a gun, live bullets and a knife in the vehicle they were travelling in on May 1, in Honiara.
They were already remanded in custody facing charges of possession of firearm without licence and one count of possession of ammunitions (bullets) without licence.
Mr Varley said the third person is alleged to be the owner of the firearm and vehicle.
“Our investigation has led us to another man from Honiara who is the owner of the vehicle and we will allege he is the owner of the firearm in the car.”
The Solomon Star understands the third suspect will appear in court today.
“We won’t tolerate firearm in the community and this case is a very serious one particularly on the fact that the vehicle was driving around Honiara with a weapon inside,” Mr Varley said.
He said police were concern about that issue which is why a thorough investigation was carried out which led them to the third arrest.
