POLICE in Auki have arrested a key suspect in the theft incident at Kilu’ufi Hospital fortnight ago.
It was alleged that security officers working at the hospital may have been involved.
The matter was promptly reported to the police and an investigation was launched and this week, a key suspect was arrested.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander Tex Tafoa confirmed the theft and provided details about the stolen items, which included a 9-kilogramme gas cylinder as well as water tanks, building materials and hospital equipment stored in a hospital building.
He said police have retrieved the gas cylinder.
PPC Tafoa reassured the public that police investigation is ongoing and police are continuing with their efforts to identify and apprehend others involved in the crime.
He highlighted the importance of community cooperation in apprehending the culprits and urged the public to report any suspicious activity they have seen or provide police with any information they may have in relation to the hospital theft.
“We ask the public and local communities to work closely with police by reporting any suspicious actions or crime-related activities.
“Police will increase patrols in the area as the investigation continues and those responsible will be brought to justice,” PPC Tafoa said.
