NAHA police have arrested a male suspect for allegedly raping a 33-year-old disabled female over the weekend at Lau Valley, East Honiara.
The arrest was made after the male suspect was apprehended by the woman’s relatives and brought to the Naha Police Station.
RSIPF Sexual Assault Squad investigators assisted Naha CID officers to interview the victim.
Naha police later transported the victim to Seif Ples and after which she was transferred to the Christian Care Centre at Tenaru, East of Honiara.
Detective Constable Cathy Hoiau from the Sexual Assault Squad of the RSIPF says:
“It is a very sad incident knowing that the victim is a person with a disability whom the alleged suspect should respect and protect.
“I appeal to our communities to take special care of our vulnerable people.”
Naha police are appealing to people in the Lau Valley area to come forward with any information on the incident.
