POLICE at Noro have arrested six male suspects following an armed robbery at one of the logging camps at North New Georgia, Western Province, Thursday.
Police alleged the suspects from Kolombangara and Mase village who were armed with knives and axes, entered the logging camp and demanded money and threatened workers.
When their demand wasn’t met, they turned and assaulted the camp manager and destroyed machines and properties as they chased those residing in the logging camp into the bush.
The presence of the suspects’ threats forced those residing in the camp to escape into the bush, where they made contact with police for assistance.
Police officers at Noro quickly responded and arrested four suspects at Mase village.
They were brought over to Noro police station and kept overnight inside police custody. The men will be transported to Gizo for further investigation.
Police Provincial Commander at Western province called upon individuals who may have the attitude to take the laws into their own hands to reconsider such action in the future, as it will harm the peace and safety its people are enjoying now.
