A WORKSHOP on new crime prevention strategy in relation to the Family Protection Act has been conducted on Tuesday in Honiara.
Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast said it is a very important workshop that was attended by Honiara city police supervisors and managers, including Provincial Police Commanders and their heads of division.
“It also involved community leaders from east, central and west Honiara,” Mr Prendergast said.
“A total of 27 Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (SIPF) supervisors and managers attended the workshop,” he added.
“It was really to brief and upscale them in relation to the Family Protection Act which is clearly the priority and it is also the new approach under the crime and prevention strategy.
“So it’s important that with that strategy we do involve the community leaders because the strategy is really based on working together with community.”
Mr Prendergast said it’s based on the underpinning principal of respect and valuing custom and culture.
“It’s a successful workshop and it is the first of the number of those workshops that we will be running around the country to ensure the police force is well versed with the new operating model.”
The police chief also acknowledged the assistance of the World Vision to assist in the funding of that workshop.
