Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast is happy with the behaviour of communities over the Independence Day event and other events over the week.
He said police have received a high level of cooperation from the communities and the support.
“We really appreciate the support.”
Mr Prendergast at the weekly police conference yesterday at the Rove Police Headquarters said this had led to people enjoying the Solomon Games and the Peace and Reconciliation activity at Rove field also went well.
“On behalf of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), I acknowledge the behaviour of the communities over the Independence celebration and through the Solomon Games which is continuing and the Peace and Reconciliation activity that has been held over the last week.
“To those involved, thank you very much and the communities in general, thank you very much.”
Meanwhile police will over the next week continue to be busy.
Mr Prendergast said this is for the Solomon Game which is continuing and visitors will be arriving for the Pacific Island Development Forum conference which is a very important national event.
He said that will be followed by the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) leader’s summit.
“While we have a busy week, there has been a lot of good work done.
“Police will continue to fully engage through to next week to ensure those events run successfully and peacefully.
“And we continue to request the support from communities as we have been getting.”
Mr Prendergast added that the public will see continuous high visibility operation plus more breathalyzers operations over the weekend.
“People should be prepared for issues with traffic as we convey VIPs around the city for those important events.
“I am confident the police are prepared and ready to manage those events and we really appreciate support of the community.”
