Lau-Mbaelelea MP faces criminal offences
POLICE have charged Lau-Mbaelelea MP Augustine Auga with two counts of common assault and one of intimidation.
He will appear in court on Monday 14th February.
The police media unit confirmed this yesterday.
It said police took Auga on Monday to Naha Police Station in east Honiara.
After he was grilled by detectives, he was formally arrested and charged.
“The accused was charged with three counts of penal code offences,” the unit said.
“They include two charges of common assault and one of intimidation.”
The Solomon Star understands the charges were in relation to an incident that occurred at Burns Creek settlement last November.
Auga is a resident of Burns Creek.
During the incident, members of the community reportedly threw stones at a vehicle driven by Auga’s son.
This was over claims the son always drive recklessly and with no-care attitude through the community.
When the Solomon Star contacted him yesterday, Auga refused to comment.
But around 4.30pm, he called the Solomon Star office and warned the paper against publishing the story.
He also accused the police of giving “false information” to the media.
