Police are still waiting for the results of a post mortem of the young man who died in police custody last month.
Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast said police cannot finalise its investigations until the post mortem results are returned.
He said the obvious results of the post mortem have a big bearing on the result of the investigations.
Samples from a first post mortem done here on the young deceased were sent to Australia to verify certain aspects of the results.
Mr Prendergast said police are treating this matter very seriously.
He said even with the heavy police involvement in other activities, investigations are continuing and will continue until they get the result.
He further added that there will be a hearing on the Death and Fire Inquiry Act in relation to that matter so people can be rest assured, there will be an independent hearing in relation to facts of that matter.
“We are committed to that.”
The deceased died in custody last month at the Central Watch House while being held under a warrant of arrest.
He died three days after his arrest.
